We are all aware that the lake water is at a very low level right now. Many homeowners cannot get their boats out of the lifts anymore. Few boaters can get through the canals. This is a time that many will take the opportunity to clean their beach areas. Please keep in mind that if you are planning to work on your beach, plan to adhere to the regulations regarding the quantity of vegetation you can legally clear. If you have any questions, contact the EPD office.
If you are using any weed killer, it must be an approved material.
Please do not use Roundup on the lake vegetation or beach area. There is another product called
Rodeo that is approved for the lakes and will not harm the fish or water quality.
You can also go to the Orange County website to get additional information on how to keep the lake clean (www.orangecountyfl.net) . Or, Google Orange County Environmental Protection Division. You will find valuable resources on these websites. Please be a responsible lakefront homeowner and become educated!
You will notice on the EPD website there is a program called C.L.I.P. (Clean Lakes Initiative Program). Homeowners may be eligible for up to $1,000.00 toward expenses for lakefront restoration. Check it out!
