What's New on the Lake?
June 2007

The Lake Conway Navigation Board is responsible for the quality of the recreational boating experience of Lake Conway. The responsibility comes in many forms. It may be water quality, vegetation issues, access, docks, and even out of control boaters.

This advisory board is helping to make your waterways safer by initiating a Lake Conway Navigational Patrol. We have been involved with the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife and they advised us of a program that was used on the Butler Chain to hire off-duty officers to step up patrols on the Butler chain. Reports from the Butler Chain Nav Board were very positive and we began to look into ways that we might achieve the same results.

In April of this year, the County Sheriffs Dept. agreed to patrol all of Lake Conway, including Lake Gatlin, with additional patrols. This program has already had a great response from lakefront owners. Few citations have been issued, but many warnings regarding boating responsibly have been given.

This week you should have received a pamphlet regarding boating safety regulations. This brochure is just a sample of safety equipment and operational regulations. Please reference it as you start your boating season. To report unsafe boating operations, contact the Orange County Sheriffs Office Marine Patrol Unit at 407-836-HELP.

If you would like to learn more about this program, you are invited to come to any Nav Board meeting. These meetings occur on the second Tuesday of each month at the Edgewood City Hall at 6:30. The meetings last for about an hour.
